Borgel – The Master Casemaker You Haven’t Heard Of. Fantastically beautiful, beautiful and extremely rare pocket watch in Borgel case from IWC, dated 1910. Caliber IWC 58-19”H5. Francois Borgel was a pioneer in the development and manufacture of waterproof watch cases. They were popularized by officers in the trenches during World War I and were often advertised to the public as “active duty watches”. Longines and IWC were two companies that adopted the screw case in its early stages. 1910 Housing : Solid iron / gun metal housing screwed, this is hallmarked on the bottom.
