Offered for sale is a handsome antique English wooden pistol case dating to the early-to-mid 19th century, originally intended to house a percussion pistol and its accessories. The case features quality construction with brass-lined lion motif pull hardware, a fitted cloth-lined interior, and includes an original-style cleaning tool. Whether used as a collector’s display piece, restoration project, or period firearm accessory, this is an attractive survivor from the percussion era of the 1800s. Brass-lined lion motif pull hardware. Attractive rich wood grain throughout. Ideal for display with an antique percussion pistol or collection of firearm accessories. The box displays honest wear consistent with its age of approximately 175-200 years. General wear, scratches, scuffs, and age-related patina throughout. Interior cloth lining shows expected age and use. Appears to be missing a front latch or locking component. Hardware shows age-related wear and oxidation. Cleaning tool included as shown. Please review all photographs carefully as they are an important part of the description. Based on the dimensions and interior layout, it may have held a small English percussion pocket pistol, traveling pistol, target pistol, or possibly a custom-made firearm. It is also possible that the case was custom fitted for a specific owner’s pistol and accessories. Cases from this period are becoming increasingly difficult to find, particularly examples retaining their original interior and decorative brass hardware. This is a very nice item, James Purdy and sons highly reputable gun maker from Audley House S. The case comes with original keys and owner’s tag. The interior base of the case is made of wood with a leather exterior. The lid has a red velvet inner and a leather outer. It’s in good shape. There are a few blemishes on the ext. This is a beautiful case. Brand New and made for Colt by the Pocumtuck Wood Company in Massachusetts. Beautiful imprinted leather material on the top of the case, with an incredible American Flag and solid Brass Nameplate inside. Comes with a key for the lock. The display case is in its original cardboard box as shown in the photos.
