Borgel – The Master Casemaker You Haven’t Heard Of. Fantastically beautiful, beautiful and extremely rare pocket watch in Borgel case from IWC, dated 1910. Caliber IWC 58-19”H5. Francois Borgel was a pioneer in the development and manufacture of waterproof watch cases. They were popularized by officers in the trenches during World War I and were often advertised to the public as “active duty watches”. Longines and IWC were two companies that adopted the screw case in its early stages. 1910 Housing : Solid iron / gun metal housing screwed, this is hallmarked on the bottom. GLASS : Watch glass in very good condition. DIAL : Originally preserved dial in a clear Watch Arabian Gravity version. Good condition, small hairline crack at 11 o’clock, otherwise very good condition. Dimensions: without crown: 51.5 mm over crown: 63.3 mm over temple: 71.7 mm PLANT : Wonderfully preserved Longines manufacture movement in caliber 58-19”H5. With screw balance, screwed gold chatons, Breguet hairspring. All functions work flawlessly. The movement runs perfectly.
